MASONEILAN

Company history

The company was founded in 1882 [1] by William B. Mason, an engineer and inventor by profession.

In the first two decades of the 20th century, the company manufactured control valves for air, water and steam, and other control equipment, supplying the United States Navy during World War I.

In 1931, after the purchase of the Neilan Company of California, the company changed its name to the Mason-Neilan Regulator Company.

During World War II, he built control instrumentation for marine applications.

In 1956, under the name Masoneilan International Inc., the company landed in Norwood, Massachusetts, building an advanced industrial complex.

Over the next few years, the company changed its name often, in particular:

  • Worthington (1956)
  • 1959 - Annin and Masoneilan
  • 1968 - Masoneilan International Inc

In 1985 the company ceased to exist and the structure and brand were acquired by Dresser Inc.[1], a company that since 1998 has been part of the Halliburton Co. group (a group based in Houston, Texas).

Patents and products

Masoneilan is credited for :

  • Around 1880 the patent for a steam lamination valve
  • In 1944 the concept of flow coefficient Cv, since then universally used as a parameter for defining the flow rate of fluid passing through a valve.
  • Around 1960 the universal Camflex valve, with eccentric poppet, a hybrid between butterfly valve and ball valve.
